Year in review and 2025 plans
Happy 2025! I sincerely hope this year brings wonderful things for you!
We began 2024 with a generous donation of Hallicrafters gear, and held a very successful auction in April. After the auction, we reviewed what we could accomplish with those funds to enhance our members experience at the Shack.
We started by repairing the air conditioning system as well as long overdue maintenance on the roof. We moved some antennas and put up a Hex Beam antenna. We then decided to improve the entrance to the shack and classroom area. Dick Stout, with the help of our club members moved ventilation ducts, and installed a new dropped ceiling with improved lighting. Handicap friendly entrances made easier entry for our folks. Our radio room was enhanced with a GEOCHRON display. The museum portion of the building was expanded. And our Surplus equipment is now housed in it's own part of the building, and acquired a new name: SURPLUS AREA 51.
As we start 2025, I encourage all of you who have a key fob or card to utilize it for entry. (Even if someone opens the door for you) This helps us track attendance.
We no longer have a phone at the Shack. So if you have questions call Richard (Dick) Stout at 623-414-7514. The best place to stay informed is to check this website often.
Our repeater has been relocated back to the shack. Please use it often (441.775 + pl100)
The Museum and our Surplus Area 51 will be open beginning Jan. 6. All Area 51 equipment will have known condition and suggested donation attached to the item. (there are over 200 items!)
Our Jan. 25th Open House and Tailgate will feature two raffle items. Enter to win the Heathkit receiver (GR-91 AM through 30 Mhz) by visiting the shack during Jan. Entry tickets can be obtained FREE with each visit. Ticket to enter the raffle for the Kenwood TS-520 are on sale now, each ticket costs $5 (we bonus one ticket: 5 for $20) You do NOT have to be present to WIN on Jan. 25, but PLEASE print your contact info legibly.
To manage the expanded space of Shack offerings, we are going to have two monitors during open hours, and are actively recruiting volunteers. Let me know if you can help!
I am positive this will be a great year for us all and please come visit us. I look forward to visiting with you soon.
